Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University™ officially opened on Oct. 1, 1872. The Hokies™ participate in the ACC in twenty-two varsity sports. Virginia Tech™ teams have never won an NCAA championship, but individual athletes from the program have won twenty individual national titles in various track and field events and in wrestling.
